| Abstract in Brazilian Portuguese: | O Microscópio de Força Atômica (Atomic Force Microscope - AFM) faz parte da família do Microscópio de Varredura de Sonda (Scanning Probe Microscope -SPM), basicamente é uma ponta que varre toda a superfície da amostra, um sistema que fica medindo a força interatômica dos átomos da ponta com os átomos da amostra e por fim um software que processa essas informações e gera a imagem topográfica da amostra. Neste trabalho apresento o AFM, um instrumento fascinante e de grande utilização no meio científico. Eu abordo os aspectos fundamentais como suas peças, a manipulação (modos de operação), as imagens geradas e a física por trás deste instrumento. Sua utilização proporciona resultados importantes para várias áreas da ciência, desde a física, engenharia até a área da saúde e a biológica. |
| Abstract: | The Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) belongs to the Scanning Probe Microscope (SPM) family, that is, basically it is a tip that scans the entire surface of the sample, a system that measures the force interaction of the tip atoms with the sample atoms and finally a software that processes this information and generates the topographic image of the sample. In this work I present the AFM a fascinating instrument that is widely used in the scientific world. I approach the fundamental aspects such as its parts, the manipulation (operation modes), the generated images and the physics behind this instrument. Its use provides important results for several areas of science, from physics, engineering to health and biology. |
