Abstract: Mesh generation is an important component of Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) systems. To generate a high quality mesh, suitable discretization must be assigned to a model’s boundaries. Unfortunately, many CAE software packages require considerable user interaction to define appropriate discretization when models have complex features, such as high curvatures and narrow regions. This work presents an algorithm for the automatic discretization of boundary curves of plane models capable of handling complex features. Moreover, the algorithm is capable of producing curvilinear boundary discretization by taking into account the parameterization of the boundary curves, and these curvilinear boundary discretizations may be used to generate high quality isogeometric meshes consisting of B´ezier triangles. The algorithm has three input parameters, the maximum and minimum edge length and the maximum curvature angle. The proposed algorithm is applied in complex geometric models, demonstrating its ability to balance mesh size and quality.
