A análise da indumentária feminina do final do século XIX a partir das pinturas de Berthe Morisot

Abstract

This work aims to analyze women's clothing in the nineteenth century from the impressionist paintings of Berthe Morisot, a French painter who lived in Paris during this period and had as one of the themes of her works as French women. The artist's paintings are sources that show us both the lives of some upper-class women and the clothes they wear at different times. For the present study, a bibliographical research was carried out on women's clothing in the 19th century, gender relationship, women's relationship with the body at that time, France in the 19th century, Impressionism and the life and works of Berthe Morisot. In addition to the bibliographical research, a documental research was carried out and, based on it, the analysis of some paintings by Berthe Morisot. The chosen works were analyzed through clothing and the role of women in nineteenth-century French society, taking into account the colors, the spaces portrayed, the poses of those in the paintings. At the end of the research, it was concluded that the works of Berthe Morisot portray women from wealthy classes who lived in France during the 19th century and their relationship with clothes, how these pieces and accessories were relevant to them in the eyes of society at the time and how the clothing changed depending on the moment, the occasion and the place where these women were.
