In this work a factorial design of experiments in conjunction with the responses surface methodology (RSM) were used to optimize the activity of Ni/SiO2 catalyst for the syngas production and carbon dioxide consumption in the dry reforming of methane. The catalyst was characterized after calcination by XRF, XRD, H2-TPR. The CH4/CO2 feed ratio and reaction temperature were chosen as the variables and the responses selected were the CH4 and CO2 conversion and H2/CO ratio. The optimum reaction conditions obtained were CH4/CO2 feed ratio around 3 and reaction temperature of 700°C. The results of catalytic tests showed that in these conditions it is possible to achieve syngas with H2/CO ratio close to one, and with a high carbon dioxide conversion. Therefore, the analyses of factorial design indicate that both variables, CH4/CO2 molar ratio and temperature, affect the system response.pt_BR
