O lixão de Cuiabá e a geração de impactos socioambientais

Abstract

The socio-environmental impacts caused by consumerism and the often inadequate disposal of solid waste are major challenges in society. From this problem, this article aims to identify the socio-environmental impacts resulting from the inadequate disposition of these residues in the municipality of Cuiabá - MT. The research is based on the bibliographical reference to discuss the solid waste theme, highlighting the concept of the terminologies: consumption and consumerism, waste and waste and the ways of treatment and disposal of waste. For the identification of the problems, fieldwork was carried out in the landfill and application of the IQR questionnaire (Landfill Quality Index). It was found that the incorrect disposition of the waste, without proper treatment, has caused contamination of soil and water. Another aggravating factor is the irregular presence of recyclable waste collectors,who are in vulnerable conditions, exposed to the danger of contamination, risk of accidents, and other evils.
