dc.description.abstract-ptbrhe aim of this paper is to analyse the metaphor “APPEALING IS TASTY” on the light of the contribuitions byGeorge Lakoff, Mark Johnson and Joseph Grady to the understanding of metaphors as a tool of cognitive processing rather thanas a mere decorative resource used in language for rethorical and other aesthetic purposes. The analysis, thus, focuses on the factthat, contrary to the traditional view, metaphors are na integral part of our cognitive system and constitute a primary means ofmeaning expression.pt_BR
