dc.description.abstractThe emergence of conceptual metaphors has been the object of investigation in the vast literature in Cognitive Linguistics and related research areas. Scholars such as Barcelona (2003), Taylor (2003) and Radden (2003) have also investigated how metaphor and metonymy interact in the emergence of concepts. The present work aims to discuss how these two phenomena interact at the conceptual level. For this purpose we will discuss two metaphors QUANTITY IS VERTICAL ELEVATION and COMPULSION IS A COMPELING FORCE.pt_BR

dc.description.abstract-ptbrNo campo da Linguística Cognitiva, a inter-relação entre dois processos cognitivos, metáfora e metonímia, tem ocupado pesquisadores na tentativa de explicar a geração de sentido, não importando se são figurados ou não. Trabalhos relevantes como Metaphor and metonymy in comparison and contrast (DIRVEN e PÖRINGS, 2003); How metonymic and metaphors? (RADDEN, 2003); Metaphor and metonymy at the crossroads: a cognitive perspective (BARCELONA, 2000); The interaction of metaphor and metonymy in composite expressions (GOOSENS, 2003), em que é apresentado o termo metaphtonymy; Clarifying and applying the notions of metaphor and metonymy within cognitive linguistics: an update (BARCELONA, 2003) e Metaphor in cognitive linguistics (GIBBS; STEEN, 1999), dentre outros, mostram não somente como esses dois processos cognitivos interagem na emergência da figuratividade de conceitos mas, também, a tênue linha que separa metáfora e metonímia.[...]pt_BR
