Análise funcional de conectivos em português: da abordagem clássica à construcional

Abstract

n this article, we are dedicated to the analysis of the connectives of the Portuguese language in light of the assumptions of Functionalism. In the first section, we turn to the treatment of connectives as a grammatical class of Portuguese, focusing on its functional properties. In the second section, we start with a classical approach of this class, based on the functionalist assumptions of the last decades of the twentieth century, based on the foundations of grammaticalization and investigation of specific items, as found in Givón (1979) and Heine et al. (1991), among others. In the sequence, we arrive at the treatment of the connectives in the aspect of Usage-based Functional Linguistics, recent trend of our research, that integrates the constructional treatment of the grammar to the Functionalism, in the terms of Traugott and Trousdale (2013) and Hilpert (2014), among others. In this current strand, connectives are investigated in a constructive perspective, in a broader and holistic way, taking into account the context properties in which they are used and the levels of form and sense linkage of their subparts, according to the taxonomy proposed by Diewald (2002, 2006)
