Abstract

The book called “A uterus is the size of a fist” by Angélica Freitas was released in 2012 and still is one of the most relevant contemporary poetry work by a female author, mainly because it anticipated the diffusion of subjects related to the third wave of feminism in which we live now. From a selected group of poems in this book, the present article explores the feminine stereotypes in its nuances and develops reflections on how patriarchy values imposed on the “woman-body” —a termcoined by Paul B. Preciado —influence on its autonomy, whether byspecifying beautystandards or byadopting a moral that regulates women behavior. For this purpose, the analysis’ theoretical support relies on Simone de Beauvoir and Naomi Wolf’s considerations in attempt to establisha dialogue between its specific temporalities converging onto the situation of women in today's society.
