Clareamento dental em dentes vitais: considerações atuais.

Abstract

The color of the teeth is the single most important factor in the harmony of the smile, therefore, changes in the tooth color are the most easily perceived aesthetic abnormalities, although several other aspects contribute to the dental aesthetic balance. Healthy, clear and aligned teeth are aesthetic standards in our society. Due to this, dental whitening is one of the most sought after dental procedures in dental offices, as it provides an improvement in the aesthetic appearance of the teeth without the need to promote wear on its structure. Objetive: The objective of this study was to identify the current information related to tooth whitening in vital teeth: the techniques of bleaching, the materials used, their indications, their benefits and risks, as well as the efficiency of these procedures in the current dental clinic. Metodology: We searched articles in PubMed and potal capes databases using the following search strategy: ("MeSH terms") AND ("MeSH terms" AND "Esthetics, dental") AND ("Dentistry"). The literature review included studies that evaluated tooth whitening in human or animal vital teeth that were subjected to bleaching treatment with hydrogen peroxide or with carbamide peroxide and published in English or Portuguese. Literature Review articles and research on non-vital teeth and articles that did not fit the theme were excluded. Conclusion: The literature shows that current information on whitening does not distract much from what was studied and discovered when it first emerged, but that there have been some changes so that the dentist can increasingly provide better care and information for patients.
