Relações saussurianas e o princípio da analogia: considerações acerca da formação de novas palavras

Abstract

In this paper, we elucidate some important concepts of the Saussurean theory, such as the syntagmatic and associative relations, with the purpose of understanding better the phenomenon which is central in our analysis here: the analogy. With this aim, we recapture the central ideas relative to the analogy present in the Course in General Linguistics (CGL) and we also trace some parallels between them and the Word Formation Rules (WFR) from the generative theory. Through some examples, subsidized by the analysis of Basílio (1997 and 2010), we see that the considerations present in the CGL are still very important to resolve many of our current descriptive impasses.
