Cidade e arquitetura em transe: O Centro de Eventos do Ceará

Abstract

This paper analyzes the Events Center of Ceará, reflecting about the relationship between tourism, city and architecture and underlining its role in boosting tourism events, the promotion of tourism image of Ceará and as a symptom of the "tourism urbanization" verified in the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza. At first, the paper discusses the economic, political and symbolic dimension of the CEC, related to changes caused by socioespacias practices of tourism, especially the tourism event modality; then it analyzes the urban insertion of CEC, criticizing aspects of localization, implantation and relationship with the surroundings of the building, featuring trance as crisis of the city; finally, it deepens an architectural analysis about the equipment, establishing a parallel with some theoretical and practical issues of the production of contemporary architecture, qualifying trance as delirium or unconsciousness that the local architecture has been produced.
