Título: Expressão de caracteres fisiológicos induzida por estresse salino em três progênies de cajueiro
Autor(es): Menêses Júnior, Jose
Abstract: The main aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that cashew seedlings from diverse
environmental conditions show different biochemical and physiological characters in response
to salt stress. Different cashew plant genotypes regionally known as "comum" (Anacardium
occidentale L.) from coastal dunes subjected to salinization, "anão-precoce CP76"
(Anacardium occidentale L var. nanum) and "microcarpo" (Anacardium microcarpum
Ducke) — a native cashew plant species were evaluated in relation to their response to NaCI
salinity during the initial growth. Plants were grown either in sand culture or on vermiculite,
under different NaCI levels (0, 50, 100, 150 e 200 mM) and at different time exposure. Plants
were cultured under greenhouse condition at a 12 h photoperiod, reaching the maximal
photosinthetic active radiation of 1,000 µmol..m2.s1. Average temperatures were 27 °C at
night and 24 °C by day, while average air humidity ranged between 40% and 80%. The
results show that microcarpo cashew plants was the most sensitive of the three genotypes
studied, concerning dry mass decrease and leaf visual toxicity sympthoms. Microcarpo
sensitiviness to NaCI was directedly related to leaf C1 and Na+ content, to a higher Clleaf/root relation, and also to a lower leaf proline accumulation. In spite of the fact that
"comum" and "anão" cashew stock plants show great phenotypical differences, the derived
seedlings did not exhibit much contrast as to salt tolerance, although "anão" presented more
root and shoot biomass on both control and salt treatment. Although the physiological
characters studied (inorganic ion accumulation and partitioning, organic ion accumulation,
enzyme activities of inorganic N assimilation, porometric measurements — stomatal behaviour
and leaf transpiration rate) exhibit outstanding alterations in response to salt stress, they could
not explain the the distinct NaCI sensibility presented by the three genotypes. Anyways, salt
stress affected more decissively root endogenous K+ level, leaf expasion, nitrate reductase
activity, stomatal conductance and Ca+2 and Mg+2 in leaf. On the other way, gluthamine
sinthetase and soluble sugar content were less affected by salinity. Consequentely, only Na+
and Cl- accumulation as well as proline level colud partially explain NaCI sensibility. In
general, cashew seedling responses to NaCI are extremely complex and suggest that the
characters that may confer tolerance do not act isolatedely but are rather interactive.

Título: Domesticação da saúva: avaliação da atividade alomonal de óleos essenciais sobre o comportamento da saúva do nordeste Atta opaciceps Borgmeier, 1939
Autor(es): Moreira, Rogério Araújo
Abstract: This investigation was conducted in the NUCLEF — Phytosanitary Experimental's
Nucleus of the Center of Agrarians Science of the Federal University of Ceará, Campus
of Pici, at Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil during the year of 2002. There were utilized 12
artificiais colonies, all in adult stage, of northeastern leaf cutting-ant, Atta opaciceps
Borgmeier, 1939 (Hymenoptera:Formicidade). Five essentials oils were assayed such
as: wood-candle oil (Vanillosmopsis pohlii), black-vulture's marigold oil (Porophyllum
ruderale, Cass.), tipi oil (Petiveria alliaceae, L.), marigold oil (Tagetes minuta, L.) and
pepper-alecrim oil (Lippia sidoides, Cham.) on 5 mg/50 ml in the solvent. The solvent
used was acetone Analitical Grade. The mixture (oil + solvent) was placed, separately,
in each filter paper with the aid of a graduate pipette in the dosages of 0 µg, 0,5 µg, 1,0
µg, 1,5 µg e 2,0 p.g for each treatment with three replications. The evaluation of the
behavior of the researched insects was obtained through observation of five types of
answers that integrated the cast of observations: access to the provision area (AAP),
access to the filter paper (APF), territory demarcation in the provision area (MTAP),
territory demarcation in the filter paper (MTPF) and exploration of the provision area
(ELT). The used experimental outline was randomized blocks in an factorial 5x5x3 for
the variable access to the filter paper (APF) and territory demarcation in the filter paper
(MTPF) and 5x4x3 for the others. The average were tested to the confident level of lVo
being used the Tukey's test and the association degree among the variables was
measured through Pearson's correlation. For the parameters access to the provision area (AAP) and territory demarcation in the provision area (MTAP) the dose 1,5 pg showed
the most efectiveness for the black-vulture's marigold oil (Porophyllum ruderale,
Cass.), tipi oil (Petiveria alliaceae, L.), marigold oil (Tagetes minuta, L.) and pepperalecrim oil (Lippia sidoides, Cham.) although for the wood-candle oil (Vanillosmopsis
pohlii) the dose of 2,0 µg showed the best result. For the variable access to the filter
paper (APF) the dose of 1,5 µg showed alomonal effect during all assay for the blackvulture's marigold oil (Porophyllum ruderale, Cass.). For the variable territory
demarcation in the filter paper (MTPF) the dose of 1,0 jig of wood-candle oil
(Vanillosmopsis pohlii) presented alomonal effect. For the variable exploration of the
provision area (ELT) the dose of 1,5 µg showed alomonal effect for the black-vulture's
marigold oil (Porophyllum ruderale, Cass.) during all assay.
