      <title>Dracula: the dichotomy between characters and their historical contexts</title>

      <description>Título: Dracula: the dichotomy between characters and their historical contexts
Autor(es): Silva, Calebe Sousa
Abstract: A piece of literature is an important way to have a grasp on the values that a society deems as virtuous or wicked. This research aims to analyse the allegories to the social implications of 19th century colonialism present in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. As a horror piece of art, the book displays elements, characters, and situations that can be perceived as an allegory and commentary regarding the British Empire's anxieties and fears. In this text, the characters are representative of the fear of immigration, what British society would consider deviant behavior and moral corruption, the constant seeking of progress, and expansionism. By using elements of postcolonial studies and the new historical criticism, this paper is a fruit of research regarding historical and dialectical analysis of the social context that gave birth to the fears presented on the pages of the novel and how they are portrayed throughout the corpus.

Abstract: This paper presents an experience report on the challenges of English language teaching,&#xD;
experienced from the perspective of an intern and pre-service teacher. It aims to analyze and&#xD;
compare my pedagogical practices in two distinct scenarios: the supervised teaching&#xD;
internship at a language school within the Ceará state public school system and my role as a&#xD;
lead teacher in a private educational institution. This is a narrative research study of an&#xD;
autobiographical nature, utilizing reflective journals and my own insights into teaching&#xD;
practices for data analysis. The theoretical framework addresses content-based language&#xD;
teaching methodologies (CBLT and CLIL), the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT)&#xD;
approach, and bilingual education, as well as initial teacher education, the context of&#xD;
implementing both methodologies, and the necessity for extensive interdisciplinary&#xD;
investigation. The results suggest that while academic training provides a linguistic&#xD;
foundation, it requires the teacher to adopt an autonomous and reflective researcher stance to&#xD;
overcome the pedagogical gaps encountered in daily school life.

      <title>Tragicomedy in contemporary english language literature: the case of Queenie, by Candice Carty-Williams</title>
      <link>http://repositorio.ufc.br/handle/riufc/84688</link>
      <description>Título: Tragicomedy in contemporary english language literature: the case of Queenie, by Candice Carty-Williams
Autor(es): Rodrigues, Zilá Marília Torres
Abstract: This paper analyzes the construction of the protagonist in Candice Carty-Williams’s 2019&#xD;
novel Queenie through specific mechanisms of tragicomedy. The study questions how the&#xD;
author employs aspects of tragicomedy in shaping the protagonist and to what extent these&#xD;
aspects challenge traditional representations of identity, race, and gender, while also&#xD;
positioning the work as a representative example of contemporary English-language fiction.&#xD;
Methodologically, the research adopts a qualitative and descriptive textual analysis. It&#xD;
employs close reading of selected excerpts based on the theories of Verna A. Foster (2016)&#xD;
and John Orr (1991), as well as the feminist perspectives of bell hooks (2002; 2015). The&#xD;
analysis reveals that the protagonist is constructed as a “comic figure within a tragic&#xD;
universe,” utilizing the grotesque and “risible horror” to reveal systemic objectification of the&#xD;
Black female body. In addition, the narrative’s “double vision” encourages the reader to&#xD;
maintain both emotional engagement and critical distance from her struggles. It concludes that&#xD;
Queenie stands as a representative example of contemporary fiction, establishing tragicomedy&#xD;
as a key framework for articulating the complex reality of the Black female experience.

      <title>Tradução automática e inteligência artificial: uma análise historiográfica e perspectivas futuras</title>
      <link>http://repositorio.ufc.br/handle/riufc/84686</link>
      <description>Título: Tradução automática e inteligência artificial: uma análise historiográfica e perspectivas futuras
Autor(es): Damasceno, Leonardo Natã Silva
Abstract: Over the past decades, the evolution of digital technologies has significantly reshaped the field of translation, especially through the emergence of machine translation systems and, more recently, generative artificial intelligences (AIs). This study investigates the intervention of AI in translation by adopting a mixed methodological approach qualitative, quantitative, exploratory, and historiographical to examine the technical, historical, and social aspects of this transformation. The research is structured in three stages: a literature review of the historical development of machine translation (from Rule-Based to Neural and Generative systems), a comparative analysis of translation engines (such as Google Translate, DeepL, Amazon Translate, and GPT-based models), and a prospective study on future trends and challenges. Results show that although Large Language Models (LLMs) like GPT-4 outperform traditional Neural Machine Translation (NMT) systems in contextual fluency and adaptability, while still exhibit translationese traits and face limitations in under-resourced languages. The study concludes that the future of translation lies in hybrid models that combine the generative power of LLMs with domain-specific fine-tuning, alongside the continued relevance of human translators in ensuring quality, ethics, and cultural nuance.
