Abstract: Conservation Units (CUs) play an essential role in environmental protection by articulating planning, implementation, and monitoring in the face of increasing anthropogenic pressure on ecosystems. In Brazil, the National System of Conservation Units (SNUC) organizes these areas, among which the Environmental Protection Areas (APAs) stand out, reconciling conservation and sustainable use of natural resources. In this context, this article analyzes the&#xD;
Paracuru Dunes APA, located in the State of Ceará and created in 1999. The unit encompasses ecosystems of mobile and fixed dunes, which play fundamental roles in hydrological and climatic balance and in maintaining local biodiversity, although it is subject to intense pressures such as irregular urban expansion, disordered tourism, heavy vehicle traffic, and real estate speculation. Its Management Plan, updated in 2022, seeks to guide territorial planning and reduce these impacts; however, studies point to limitations in its implementation and the effectiveness of its management. Given this context, this article analyzes the effectiveness of the APA Management Plan, based on the Methodological Roadmap of the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBIO), through document analysis, an interview with the unit's manager, and a literature review. The evaluation is structured around fundamental, dynamic, and normative parameters, allowing for the identification of advances, weaknesses, and challenges for the consolidation of the management of the Paracuru Dunes APA. Among the main results, the following stand out: difficulties in implementing and coordinating the plan, lack of adequate infrastructure, insufficient oversight, the need to expand the polygon, the need to strengthen popular participation, the presence of conflicts between environmental and sustainable management and tourism and&#xD;
real estate developments, as well as the demand for greater investment in environmental education for the management of the APA. Through the research carried out, it was possible to perceive that the plan presents partial advances in aspects such as planning, environmental education, and institutional partnerships, but still faces structural and operational limitations. The advance of dunes into residential areas, the silting up of water bodies, and the&#xD;
intensification of unregulated tourism demonstrate that the environmental fragility of the APA (Environmental Protection Area) demands more urgent and integrated management responses.

Abstract: This case study analyzes thermohygrometric variability and thermal comfort in two green urban spaces in Fortaleza: an urban garden in Lagoa Redonda and an incidental vegetated plot at the UFC’s Institute of Physical Education and Sports. The research examines surrounding morphology, land use, and microclimatic parameters obtained through remote sensing and field data. SAVI (Soil-Adjusted Vegetation Index) and LST (Land Surface Temperature), GOES 10 satellite data, and the “Fortaleza em Mapas” platform were used. Hourly air temperature and relative humidity data were collected and analyzed using the heat index. Results show that both sites are informally used and disconnected from environmental policies. The incidental space is a residual green area in a high-density zone, while the garden is part of a green corridor in a low-density area. Dense native vegetation around the garden served as a thermal and humidity regulator, stabilizing moisture and reducing heat peaks. In contrast, the incidental site’s sparse vegetation and impermeable ground intensified thermal and hygrometric discomfort.

Abstract: This study analyzes the application of participatory methodologies in understanding the ways of life of traditional communities in the lower course of the Aracatiaçu River, located in the state of Ceará, Brazil. The research seeks to integrate technical-scientific knowledge with local wisdom, providing a broader perspective on socio-environmental dynamics to facilitate the implementation of a Conservation Unit (CU) in the territory. To achieve this, the SWOT matrix was employed as a tool to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats faced by local residents. The results indicate that these communities maintain a strong connection with their environment, with artisanal fishing, subsistence agriculture, and community-based tourism emerging as the primary economic activities. However, challenges such as a lack of basic infrastructure, environmental degradation, real estate speculation, and the absence of effective public policies were identified as limiting factors for sustainable local development. Given this scenario, the study emphasizes the need for participatory territorial planning that incorporates environmental education and the strengthening of sustainable activities. It is recommended that measures be implemented to encourage community engagement, value traditional knowledge, and develop public policies that ensure adequate infrastructure and environmental conservation. Thus, the findings suggest that adopting participatory methodologies significantly contributes to more equitable and inclusive territorial management, fostering the socioeconomic development of the local population without compromising the region's natural resources.

      <title>Cultura afro-brasileira e o ensino de Geografia: desafios e possibilidades na educação em Fortaleza-CE</title>
      <link>http://repositorio.ufc.br/handle/riufc/82848</link>
      <description>Título: Cultura afro-brasileira e o ensino de Geografia: desafios e possibilidades na educação em Fortaleza-CE
Autor(es): Souza Neto, José Luiz de
Abstract: Changes in geographic science directly influence the teaching methodology in the school space. Geography, which for a long time had a colonial reproduction of science, today begins to undergo new transformations that bring the racial view of blacks on perspective as a subject and not an object. From this, education also changes their perceptions and, with the help of laws such as 10.639/03 and 11.645/08, they begin to strengthen the dialogue on ethnic-racial issues in school. Thus, this article has the general objective of understanding the challenges and possibilities that exist in the application of Afro-Brazilian themes integrated with Geography content from the perspective of teachers from the Municipal Network of Fortaleza-CE. A discussion was held on school geography and citizenship training with authors such as Cavalcanti (2019, 2024), Pontuschka, Paganelli and Cacete (2009), Barbosa (2016) and Kimura (2008). Soon after, ethnic-racial issues were also worked on at school and in the teaching of Geography from Jesus and Cunha Júnior (2020), Sousa Junior (2021), Costa (2023), Couto (2020), among others. The research was exploratory (Gil, 2008), with a qualitative approach (Flick, 2009), the procedures were to carry out a bibliographic and documentary analysis on the legislation that strengthens ethnic-racial issues in the school environment, in addition, a collection of textbooks was analyzed. After that, semi-structured interviews took place with 4 Geography teachers from the Municipal Network of Fortaleza-CE to know their considerations on the subject. It was identified that these teachers recognize the importance of African culture in Brazil, however, they still have difficulties in integrating this theme in the classroom, as they consider their training insufficient for some topics of the subject, with the request for continuing education organized by the SME of Fortaleza-CE. Therefore, the purpose of this work was to contribute to research on this theme and to observe the difficulties that still exist in the academic and school space with racial issues, especially in the state of Ceará, because in addition to the discussion being scarce, when it exists it leaves much to be desired in the way it is implemented, and that public agencies organize training that improves the treatment of these contents.
