    <title>Entre opacidades e transparências: estratégias retóricas da infografia estatística no instagram</title>
    <link>http://repositorio.ufc.br/handle/riufc/86650</link>
    <description>Título: Entre opacidades e transparências: estratégias retóricas da infografia estatística no instagram
Autor(es): Lopes, Leonardo Santos Bezerra
Abstract: This research aims to investigate the rhetorical strategies employed by statistical infographic&#xD;
pages on Instagram. The problem guiding the study lies in the gap in research devoted to&#xD;
understanding the rhetorical dimensions of infographics on this platform. In addition,&#xD;
infographics are frequently presented as neutral tools, as transparent lenses for data, a&#xD;
perspective defended by authors such as Edward Tufte, who criticizes the use of elements&#xD;
considered decorative in visualizations. However, this study is grounded in the assumption&#xD;
that all communication is rhetorical and shaped by intention, so that the supposed neutrality&#xD;
would itself constitute a rhetorical effect. Based on this understanding, the research operates&#xD;
with two analytical categories: the rhetoric of opacity and the rhetoric of transparency. These&#xD;
categories were developed through a bibliographic review that identifies a historical debate in&#xD;
the field of information visualization, particularly between the minimalist perspective&#xD;
associated with Edward Tufte and the approaches that recognize and value the presence of&#xD;
expressive and narrative layers in infographics, such as those developed by Nigel Holmes.&#xD;
While transparency privileges the reduction of graphic elements and an emphasis on data,&#xD;
opacity involves visual metaphors, textures, images, and graphic layers that add meaning to&#xD;
the visualization. The research adopted a mixed qualitative-quantitative approach developed&#xD;
in three stages. First, a content analysis was applied to two hundred infographics collected&#xD;
from four specialized Instagram pages, fifty per page, based on fourteen opacity coders. Next,&#xD;
eight infographics were submitted to a rhetorical analysis grounded in Foss's method and in&#xD;
the New Rhetoric of Perelman and Olbrechts-Tyteca. Finally, an enhancement of the opacity&#xD;
analysis model was proposed, the reliability of which was tested using Krippendorff's alpha&#xD;
coefficient, in order to constitute a replicable tool. The results indicate that both the&#xD;
infographics closer to transparency and the more opaque ones presented argumentative&#xD;
density, which points to a rhetoric of neutrality in the less opaque ones, aimed at connoting&#xD;
credibility through their aesthetics.

    <title>Notas sobre o processo de construção e destruição do patrimonio edificado do Crato: uma anlise em longa temporalidade (1764-2000)</title>

    <description>Título: Notas sobre o processo de construção e destruição do patrimonio edificado do Crato: uma anlise em longa temporalidade (1764-2000)
Autor(es): Araújo, Revena Reis
Abstract: This research aims to investigate, from a historical and long-&#xD;
term perspective, aspects of the process of construction,&#xD;
&#xD;
decharacterization, and demolition of the built heritage of the&#xD;
historic center of Crato, between the years 1764 and 2000. The&#xD;
temporal framework is justified by the elevation of the&#xD;
Mission of Miranda to the Royal Village of Crato in 1764 and&#xD;
the implementation of Crato's Master Plan in 2000, which&#xD;
brought relevant discussions about the built heritage to the&#xD;
forefront. The goal is to understand the architectural and&#xD;
urban changes that occurred throughout this extended&#xD;
period, examining how the advent of modernization,&#xD;
especially from the mid-20th century onward, influenced the&#xD;
transformation of the urban space and the disfigurement of&#xD;
the city's historical heritage. The research focuses on the&#xD;
continuities and mutations in the built environment,&#xD;
associating them with the actions of different social agents,&#xD;
such as the State, the Church, economic agents, and the&#xD;
intellectual elite, who played crucial roles in urban dynamics&#xD;
over the centuries. The relevance of this study is justified by&#xD;
three factors: (1) the urgent need to conduct a historical and&#xD;
critical analysis of the architectural and urban objects that&#xD;
&#xD;
make up the urban landscape of Crato, (2) the urgency of&#xD;
addressing the disfigurement of the urban design and&#xD;
architecture of the historic center, identifying the agents&#xD;
involved in this social phenomenon, and (3) the demand to&#xD;
broaden the scope of academic studies on cities located&#xD;
outside major urban centers. The work is structured around&#xD;
several main points that are interconnected, seeking to lay the&#xD;
foundation for understanding the interventions within the&#xD;
proposed temporal scope. The research starts by examining&#xD;
aspects of the construction process of CratoÕs built heritage,&#xD;
both in terms of urban design and architecture, from its&#xD;
foundation as Vila Real in 1764 until the early 20th century; it&#xD;
proceeds with the analysis of the agents shaping the urban&#xD;
configuration, as well as the identification of continuities and&#xD;
ruptures in the space, through retrospective cartographies&#xD;
that already reveal urban transformations. Finally, the&#xD;
destruction of heritage takes center stage in the writing. The&#xD;
analysis, also from a historical perspective, explores various&#xD;
angles of the destructive dynamics. For this, the construction&#xD;
of a theoretical framework is supported by a bibliographical&#xD;
review and the analysis of documentary sources, such as&#xD;
iconography, maps, reports, and periodical archives. The&#xD;
relevance of the study is justified by its contribution to the&#xD;
understanding of Crato's urban development, offering an&#xD;
analysis of the transformations that occurred over more than&#xD;
two centuries of history, from the foundation of a small village&#xD;
to a city with modernizing aspirations, while much of its built&#xD;
heritage was gradually erased by the constant quest for&#xD;
renewal.

    <description>Título: "O Rio Jaguaribe é uma Artéria Aberta": infraestruturas hídricas e urbanização no Ceará (1921-2002)
Autor(es): Silva, João Marcello Torquato Lima da
Abstract: In 1928, amid the socioeconomic crisis caused by the drought in Ceará, the writer and&#xD;
politician Demócrito Rocha published the poem “The Jaguaribe River Is an Open Artery,” in&#xD;
which he compares the river to an “artery” of the Ceará “organism,” suggesting that the Orós&#xD;
Dam would be a surgical intervention capable of stemming the “bleeding” of water resources&#xD;
caused by periodic droughts, thereby driving the state’s economic development. Based on this&#xD;
representation, this study aims to analyze, from a historical and critical perspective, the&#xD;
socio-spatial relationships between water infrastructure projects and urbanization in the&#xD;
Jaguaribe River Basin (BHRJ), in Ceará, between 1921 and 2002, using the municipality of&#xD;
Orós as a case study. The theoretical assumptions of this study are based on the production of&#xD;
space as the result of the dialectical interaction between humans and the natural environment&#xD;
through social practices, and on urbanization as the spatial concatenation of the movements&#xD;
of reproduction and distribution of population and productive dynamics within the territory.&#xD;
At the BHRJ’ scale, the research was based on a literature review, the collection of primary&#xD;
and secondary data (on water and road infrastructure, human settlements linked to these&#xD;
projects, state agents, and population and productive dynamics), and spatial analysis using&#xD;
geoprocessing techniques on a GIS platform, enabling the mapping of territorial&#xD;
transformations associated with major water projects. At the municipal scale, a qualitative&#xD;
approach was adopted, analyzing historical documents related to the construction of the Orós&#xD;
Dam and the urbanization of the municipality of the same name, seeking to establish&#xD;
correlations between these processes, as well as period maps, reworked through redrawing as&#xD;
a tool for historical research. The results indicate how technical interventions in the BHRJ –&#xD;
marked by different paradigms of water resource management throughout the 20th century –&#xD;
are related to transformations not only in the natural environment but also in the region’s&#xD;
demographic, economic, and political-institutional dynamics. In the case of Orós, the central&#xD;
role of the dam as a structuring element of the territory stands out, as its construction&#xD;
redefined the relationship between the city, the physical environment, and the State. By&#xD;
combining spatial analysis and urban history, the study contributes to the historiography of&#xD;
urbanization in Ceará, highlighting how water infrastructure acted as instruments of land-use&#xD;
planning and vectors of socio-spatial transformation in the Ceará semi-arid region.

    <description>Título: Participação do usuário e eficiência em projetos de wayfinding e sinalização
Autor(es): Josino, Isabela Mota Saraiva
Abstract: For wayfinding and signage systems to be efficient for the individuals who use them, it is&#xD;
essential that users’ contributions are considered throughout the design process, so that the&#xD;
solutions developed are aligned with real-world conditions. Therefore, this study aims to&#xD;
investigate user participation in design processes in order to understand the methodological&#xD;
factors that influence such involvement. The main objective of this research is to structure the&#xD;
decision-making process regarding the methodologies, methods, and techniques to be applied&#xD;
in wayfinding and signage projects, in order to efficiently use the information obtained from&#xD;
users in the development of solutions. To achieve this, the adopted methodology is Design&#xD;
Science Research (DSR), since the study aims to propose an artifact that contributes both&#xD;
practically to designers and theoretically to the advancement of the literature on the subject.&#xD;
The research was conducted according to the phases guided by DSR: problem awareness,&#xD;
suggestion, development, evaluation, and communication. The theoretical contribution lies in&#xD;
structuring the decision-making process regarding methodologies, methods, and techniques to&#xD;
be applied in design projects, based on the investigation of factors that influence the&#xD;
application of participatory techniques. The practical contribution consists of the development&#xD;
of a tool that represents the framework in a visual and functional way, enabling its use by&#xD;
signage designers. To evaluate the tool, it was tested with students from the Information&#xD;
Design Laboratory and professionals in the field, in order to assess its usability and&#xD;
usefulness.
