Abstract: Construction and demolition waste (CDW) management represents a major challenge for sustainability and environmental compliance in contemporary civil engineering. This study presents a case study on CDW management during the renovation and expansion of the *Hospital Universitário dos Sertões de Crateús* (Hospital São Lucas) in the state of Ceará, aiming to evaluate the project's regulatory compliance and logistical efficiency. The methodology involved monitoring and comparing the guidelines of the Construction Waste Management Plan (PGRCC) with actual data consolidated via Waste Transport Manifests (MTR) and Final Disposal Certificates (CDF) through the SINIR system. Quantitative results indicated a total generation of 4,096.81 tonnes of waste, with Class A materials (concrete and masonry) predominating at 99.90%; this was driven by structural demolitions required to meet ANVISA Resolution RDC No. 50/2002. Class B waste totaled 165.85 m³, with the highest volumes occurring during the initial phase of the project due to the complexity of the new medical gas networks and electrical systems. The study also highlighted the need for rigorous handling and sealed storage for Class D hazardous waste, given the risk of soil contamination within an active hospital environment. It is concluded that CDW management for the project successfully met the guidelines of CONAMA Resolution No. 307/2002 and Law No. 12.305/2010 (PNRS), demonstrating that the combined use of the PGRCC and electronic MTR ensures superior chain-of-custody traceability and successfully diverts materials from illegal dumping sites.

Abstract: Social housing (HIS) plays a crucial role in mitigating the housing deficit in Brazil, driven by government initiatives such as the Minha Casa Minha Vida Program (PMCMV). However, large-scale mass production, budgetary constraints, and project standardization facilitate the premature emergence of pathological manifestations. The purpose of this study was to examine and evaluate the main building anomalies in social housing linked to the PMCMV located in the Sertões de Crateús region, in Ceará. The methodology involved an applied, qualitative-quantitative research approach through diagnostic engineering based on in-situ visual inspections, photographic records, and structured building inspection forms across 10 sampled units, in addition to semi-structured questionnaires applied to the residents. The results revealed a scenario of premature degradation and accelerated functional obsolescence, in which 70% of the units exhibited pathological manifestations in less than three years after the official delivery of keys. Statistically, the classification of anomalies pointed to cracking in vertical masonry enclosures as the main pathological core (50% of records), followed by moisture and infiltration in roof slabs (20%), and ceramic flooring detachment (20%). The analysis of causes demonstrated that the mechanical stress caused by construction failures (70% of sample perception) is severely boosted by the regional semi-arid climate, whose high temperatures, low humidity, and concentrated torrential rainfalls accelerate shrinkage and differential hygrothermal movement phenomena. It is concluded that the excessive material and construction standardization of the program, by ignoring the local physical environment, drastically compromises the design service life and transfers a severe social and economic burden to low-income families. Finally, the study fulfills its role by formulating intervention proposals along with corrective and preventive technical guidelines to assist in the execution of building projects adapted to the semi-arid climate.

Abstract: The construction industry stands out as one of the main contributors to carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions due to the high production of Portland cement and the associated clinker consumption. In this context, the use of supplementary cementitious materials derived from industrial by-products represents a promising alternative for the development of more sustainable binders. Among these alternatives, ternary cements based on the LC3 (Limestone Calcined Clay Cement) concept have gained increasing attention. However, studies investigating the combined use of red ceramic waste (RCW) and ladle furnace slag (LFS) in this type of cementitious system are still limited. Therefore, this study aimed to develop and evaluate ternary cementitious compositions based on the LC3 concept, using red ceramic waste as a substitute for calcined clay and ladle furnace slag as an alternative calcium source. The waste materials were processed by crushing, ball milling, and sieving through a 45 μm mesh. Subsequently, six cement paste formulations were produced with a water-to-solids ratio of 0.45, including mixtures with partial Portland cement replacement and clinker-free formulations. The pastes were evaluated in terms of workability using Kantro's mini-slump test, fresh bulk density, and compressive strength at 7 and 28 days. The results showed that replacing metakaolin with red ceramic waste improved the workability of the mixtures, achieving spread diameters of up to 53.2 mm. The reference formulation reached a compressive strength of 43.22 MPa at 28 days, while replacing limestone with ladle furnace slag caused no significant reduction in compressive strength, with values of 35.52 MPa and 35.31 MPa, respectively. Furthermore, the clinker-free formulations developed compressive strength of up to 4.10 MPa after 28 days, demonstrating the potential of ladle furnace slag as an alternative calcium source in ternary binders. Therefore, the combined use of red ceramic waste and ladle furnace slag represents a technically viable alternative for the development of more sustainable ternary cements.

Abstract: This study analyzes construction site planning practices in small-scale building&#xD;
construction located in the Sertão de Crateús region, Ceará. Based on concepts of work organization, logistics applied to civil construction, and the characterization of micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in the housing sector, the research adopts a qualitative and exploratory approach through the multiple case study method, involving the monitoring of three active construction sites. Data collection was carried out in two consecutive stages: first, a structured questionnaire was applied to diagnose managers' perception of importance regarding five logistical categories; next, direct technical inspections were performed in the field to assign physical compliance indexes using a checklist. The results indicate a disparity between the conceptual knowledge of professionals and the practical application observed in the daily routine of the work fronts. Visual control of activities and waste management constitute the main common non-conformities found, with a prevalence of purely verbal instructions in guiding the teams. As local good practices, the use of temporary transition ramps for the internal transport of materials and the storage of inputs within the perimeter of the private lot were identified. The study concludes that the management of physical space and production stages in the evaluated construction sites occurs intuitively, providing low-cost guidelines aimed at process standardization and waste mitigation for the investigated companies.
