Abstract: Objective: To understand, based on narratives, the experiences of psychic suffering experienced by students at the Technology Center at the Federal University of Ceará. Method: This is a research with a qualitative approach and an exploratory and descriptive nature, carried out in eleven undergraduate courses in Engineering at the Technology Center of the Federal University of Ceará. Semi-structured interviews were carried out and a focus group was constituted. The narratives were organized in knots and analyzed based on Bardin's discourse analysis. Results: 4 categories were formed from the ten nodes considered in the discourse analysis: Category 1: “grades”, “failure” and “stress”; Category 2: “teaching” and “relationship with teacher”; Category 3: “mental health”, “dropout”, “support” and “external support”; and Category 4: “being an engineering student”. Conclusion: It is necessary to propose preventive interventions, identification and care for the psychological distress of these students, in order to promote mental health and quality of life for students.

Abstract: The distribution of tensions caused by agricultural machinery depends on wheel load and inner tire pressure, as well as soil conditions. This study aimed to evaluate numerically displacements and tensions caused by tractor traffic on soil from the state of Ceará, Brazil. The rear tire weight (size 18.4-34 R1) on its contact area with the soil was 17.1 kN. Different inner pressures were considered in the numerical analysis based on the method of Finite Elements (96.5 kPa, 124.0 kPa, 151.0 kPa and 179.0 kPa), with their respective contact areas (0.2256 m2, 0 .1660 m2, 0.1522 m2 and 0.1393 m2). Our findings showed that vertical tensions on soil surface were nearly equal to tire inflation pressures. The lower pressure promoted less tension on the soil, showing that pressure reduction is necessary for further decreases on soil compaction up to a depth of 0.30 m. We also concluded that is essential to seek for solutions to reduce operating pressures, in order to decrease surface soil compaction derived from vertical and horizontal tensions.

Abstract: The discipline of Design for Engineering (DPE) is offered in the first year of the Engineering of the UFC Technology Center, along with Calculus. According to data from the National Industrial Confederation (CNI 2015) together with data from the Ministry of Education (MEC), in Brazil on average, more than half of the students entering the Civil Engineering course drop out, one of the main causes being the lack of practical application in the first Years of the course. To change this scenario, innovative teaching methodologies were presented as alternatives to the traditional teaching method, as well as to enable practical project experiments in the basic cycle. GeoGebra is a free software developed for teaching and learning and brings together geometry, algebra, graphs, tables, probability, and symbolic calculations in a single environment. Thus, this research seeks a pedagogical strategy, using the research action and procedures of the case study with students of Civil Engineering of the UFC of 2015 and 2016, where the students executed the practices of Descriptive Geometry with instrumental design and later with use of GeoGebra, in a collaborative and participatory way. With the different representations of 3D objects that interact with each other, the students were able to integrate knowledge of Calculus and Design more actively. Solids unnoticed in the graphite sketch were seen in different forms and in different artifacts. The results are presented in graphs, based on the analysis of the questionnaires made with the participants. Students' motivation, the best academic performance, can be seen, combining traditional and innovative content and methods with a focus on learning.

Abstract: The last years, a lot of discussion has taken place concerning learning and teaching
methodologies, and particularly on engineering. As far as engineering is concerned, many
different approaches have been proposed, and the spectrum goes from works dealing with the
curriculum of courses to works related to the proposal of new teaching methodologies (e. g.,
PBL, CDIO, just to quote some), in addition to some individual ad-hoc approaches. At the
same time, the exponential technological advances in the last decade, have add up pressure
on those discussions, insomuch as the engineering’s courses curriculum has had to keep up
with that. As a result, a very important issue concerns the balance between theory and
practical activities in an engineering course. On the other hand, it is a fact that the
complexity of engineering projects has increased a lot, to the point that the professional of
one specific engineering area must deal not only with technical aspects of its area, but also
with those ones related to other ones. On the top of that, the engineer must consider in the
project other aspects such as environmental and psychological issues. In this paper is
discussed a proposal of a discipline with PBL ingredients and multi/interdisciplinary aspects
as a way of dealing with the questions above and that emulates an actual engineering
scenario to be encounter by the future engineer.
