Abstract: Recent studies have demonstrated a growing increase in the development of smart biomaterials, with release systems aimed at bone regeneration. Pure bacterial cellulose (BC) or its oxidized form (OxBC) is a biopolymer with favorable physicochemical properties, and its association with alginate (ALG) generates a stable hydrogel for the incorporation of strontium apatite (SrAp), a dual bioactive compound in bone remodeling. This study evaluated, in vivo, the osteopromotive effect of hybrid membranes based on BC or OxBC associated with ALG, with or without SrAp. Critical-size defects in rat calvaria were treated&#xD;
with one of the following experimental modalities: lyophilized implants of BC/ALG (G1), OxBC/ALG (G2), BC/ALG/SrAp (G3), OxBC/ALG/SrAp (G4), collagen membrane Lumina Coat® (C+), or blood clot (C−). Histological and histomorphometric analyses evaluated, at 1and 2 months, the parameters of presence of newly formed bone, connective tissue, and biomaterial. ANOVA followed by Tukey’s post hoc test considered p &lt; 0.05 as indicative of&#xD;
significant differences between groups according to treatments and time points. New bone formation at 1 month did not exhibit differences; however, at 2 months, G2 was higher than C− and increased over time. Connective tissue filling at 1 month was lower in G1 and higher in G3 and G4; at 2 months, it was lower in G1 and G2 and higher in C+, G3, and G4, with reduction over time in C+. The amount of biomaterial at 1 and 2 months was more evident in&#xD;
G1 and G2, with persistent integrity in G1 and reduction in G2, whereas G3, G4, and C+ maintained low but stable frequency during the experimental period. The OxBC/ALG membrane was more promising, due to favorable osteopromotion, limited fibrogenesis, and low bioresorption. Although the incorporation of SrAp did not confer a consistent impact on bone regeneration under the evaluated experimental conditions and time period, the findings&#xD;
reinforce current challenges in biomaterials engineering related to the control of ionic release, carrier stability, and the bioactivity of strontium in hybrid systems. In this context, future investigations involving physicochemical modifications of biomaterials may broaden opportunities for the development of more efficient and predictable composites for bone regeneration.

Abstract: Assisted reproductive technologies have become increasingly important for improving reproductive efficiency and genetic gain in cattle. In this context, the in vitro culture of bovine secondary follicles represents a promising strategy to obtain competent oocytes from ovarian reserves that would otherwise be lost. However, follicular development under in vitro conditions is frequently impaired by oxidative stress (OS), resulting from an imbalance between the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the antioxidant capacity of the culture system. The supplementation of culture media with antioxidant compounds has therefore been proposed to mitigate oxidative damage and improve follicular performance. Acetyl eugenol (AE), a stable and lipophilic derivative of eugenol, has emerged as a potential redox-modulating agent. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of different concentrations of AE on  follicular development, viability, and oxidative stress profile during the in vitro&#xD;
culture of bovine secondary follicles. Preliminary cytosafety and dose–esponse assays were performed in bovine cumulus cells to establish a safe concentration range. Based on these results, concentrations of 10, 100, and 1000 ng/ml were selected for the culture of pre-antral follicles. Secondary follicles (150–250 µm) were mechanically isolated from bovine ovarian&#xD;
cortex and individually cultured for 18 days in TCM-199 medium supplemented with AE at 10, 100, or 1000 ng/ml, or without supplementation (control). Acetyl eugenol supplementation did not impair follicular survival, antrum formation, or viability. Notably, supplementation with 10 ng/ml AE increased the proportion of growing follicles and reduced intracellular ROS levels, whereas higher concentrations (100 and 1000 ng/ml) increased ROS generation without inducing lipid peroxidation. In conclusion, AE is safe for the in vitro&#xD;
culture of bovine secondary follicles and acts as a redox modulator, exerting beneficial effects at low concentrations within a dose-dependent hormetic response.

Abstract: INTRODUCTION: Acerola is a fruit rich in carbohydrates that has a high concentration of phytochemicals and bioactive compounds, considering this, it is believed that it presents properties to improve physical performance in Crossfit. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the effect of concentrated acerola juice on Crossfit performance and dosage of biochemical markers. METHODOLOGY: The project was approved in the CEP-UVA with No. 6.279.255. 16 men,&#xD;
age 33.8 6.7 years, weight 84.9, 13.8Kg, and practice time of 2.4 1 years participated in the study. The subjects were divided into two randomized groups: Experimental group (n=8) and Control group (n=8). There were two visits for the implementation of the Cindy protocol, which consists of performing a maximum of 5 fixed bars, 10 front supports and 15 squats in 20&#xD;
minutes. After the first visit was consumed for 7 days, 10 ml/kg of concentrated acerola juice 2 hours before each workout, where the subjects maintained their usual routine, and performed again the protocol. Blood samples for TGO, TGP and LDH were taken before (M1) and after (M2) the first visit and before (M3) and then (M4) the second visit. After confirming the normal distribution of the data, the paired t-test was used to compare performance between training&#xD;
sessions and mixed repeated measures ANOVA with post-hoc Bonferroni, in order to compare moments between groups. was adopted the significance level of p 0.05, using SPSS 25.0, to analyze the effect size, was used the Cohen’s model d, where we can obtain small (0.2), medium (0.5) or large (0.8) effects. RESULTS: There was an increase in the number of repetitions statistically significant between the first and second sessions in the experimental group&#xD;
(p=0.01), and with a moderate effect size (d=0.5). For TGO there was a statistically significant increase between M3 and M4 (p=0.01) in the control group. For TGP there was no statistical difference between any group and moment. For LDH there was a statistically significant decrease between M2 and M4 in the experimental group (p=0.01). CONCLUSION: It is concluded that the consumption of concentrated acerola juice, for seven days, promoted an&#xD;
increase in the number of repetitions in CrossFit practitioners, suggesting improvement in physical performance, without altering the activity of TGO and TGP besides reducing the concentration of LDH.

Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the acute and subchronic toxicity of the by-products of Ricinus communis (castor oil plant) detoxified by CaO and the desolventized castor oil plant bran in female and male Wistar rats, in order to verify their viability as animal feed. The detoxified castor bran and castor cake were supplied by EMBRAPA. The processing of these byproducts was performed in order to extract the soluble proteins to perform the treatment.&#xD;
Wistar rats (150g), male and female, were used. Acute toxicity test (2,000 mg/kg) was performed in females, according to OECD 423 protocol. Subchronic tests were performed in males and females divided in control (NaCl 0.9%) and subchronic groups (5, 50 and 300 mg/kg of castor meal and castor cake), according to OECD 407. Weight, hypocratic screening, AST, ALT, Urea, Creatinine of all animals and complete blood count of males were evaluated. The results showed that the survival rate was 94.56 %, with gradual weight&#xD;
gain, without significant differences between the groups. No significant changes were observed in the evaluation of the hypocratic screening. Regarding biochemical and hematological evaluations, it was observed that AST levels in females treated with the bran increased in the acute group (P&lt;0.0172) compared to the control group and with the subchronic treatments: 5 mg/kg (P&lt;0.0001), 50 mg/kg (P&lt;0.0006) and 300 mg/kg (P&lt;0.0001). In females treated with the pie, AST increased in the acute group when compared to&#xD;
the control group (P&lt;0.0002) and also in relation to the subchronic, 5 mg/kg (P&lt;0.0001), 50 mg/kg (P&lt;0.0001) and 300 mg/kg (P&lt;0.0001), similar result was obtained with ALT in the acute group (63.3 ± 10.4), which increased when compared to the control group (P&lt; 0.0016). Urea in females treated with the acute bran (2000 mg/kg) showed an increase when compared to the control group (P&lt; 0.0001) and with the subchronic treatments. No significant changes&#xD;
were observed in hematological parameters in the pie or bran treated groups when compared to the control group. The changes observed in the treated animals, although significant compared to the control animals, did not exceed the reference levels, thus not demonstrating toxicity of the detoxified cake and bran compounds, at the doses and acute and subchronic treatments tested
