Abstract: The meaning of a text surpasses its author's intentions, as interpreters and readers to come will have an amount of additional historical accumulation towards it. That does not mean interpreters understand it better, despite their historical superiority over the author, but they understand in differently. This paper intends to show how, regardless of all his care and explanations, José de Alencar could not avoid new visions and interpretations of Iracema along time.

Autor(es): Bylaardt, Cid Ottoni
Abstract: The novel O manual dos inquisidores, by the portuguese writer António Lobo
Antunes apparently refers to a common theme: the rise and fall of a mighty
man. Nevertheless, power is overwhelmed by a writing that hides an inoperative
knowledge, perhaps a non-knowledge, an unprofitable and mendacious speech,
that develops from itself, eliding the rhetoric, mythological and ideological character
of literature. This paper intends to demonstrate the tormenting search of
absolute by this writing that disrupts with the utilitary narrative to make itself art
in its eccentricity and excesses.

Autor(es): Bylaardt, Cid Ottoni
Abstract: The novel Nove noites, by Bernardo Carvalho, interlaces death and
writing in an intriguing narrative, evidencing the tenuous limits between
reality and fiction. The journalist that narrates the story looks
for the actual facts obstinately, but from a certain moment on, he realizes
that reality menaces fiction, despite the reader’s expectations
that truth be revealed. The writing, however, goes on uncertain, unsettled,
driven by non-reliable narrators, hesitant among truth and
lie, real and fiction, ending in the question of death as.
