Abstract: Resistance Training (RT) is a well-established form of physical conditioning for different
populations that aim to increase physical fitness, and is considered the main method for
improving levels of strength, power and muscular hypertrophy. Evidence proves that
adaptation to training is optimized when the training program is adapted to the athlete's
needs. Therefore, monitoring the load and intensity of training is essential to achieve the
desired results. Load self-selection has proven to be an effective tool for controlling
intensity in aerobic exercises, however load self-selection in resistance training is still
poorly studied. Thus, the present study aims to characterize the use of the self-selection
strategy of resistance training variables, so that through data and results analysis, more

professionals in the field of physical education can understand the influence of self-
selection on resistance training, its implications and effectiveness in achieving desired

intensity levels. This is an integrative literature review, in which searches were carried
out in articles and scientific works to answer the study's guiding question: How is the use
of the self-selection strategy in resistance training characterized? Searches were carried
out in the Scielo and PubMed databases. In the electronic search, the keywords
“Resistance Training”, “Strength Exercise”, “Resistance Exercise”, “Weight Lifting”,

“Weight Training”, “Strength Training”, “Self-Selected”, “Autoregulation” and “ Self-
Regulated", using the Boolean operators "on and and" between the key words to better

refine the search. A publication period for articles was not delimited during the search.
34 studies on self-selection in resistance training were selected, the results demonstrate
the range of self-selection strategies adopted during the TR, highlighting the complexity
in the influence of these choices on the results obtained by practitioners. The findings of
this research show us that self-selection can represent a strategy to promote adaptations
in the practitioner's performance during the TR.

Abstract: We investigated whether swimming teachers active in this sport, consider adaptation to the liquid
environment important for learning to swim and whether they carry out adaptation to the liquid environment
with their students. 24 swimming teachers took part in the study (age = 37±8 years; female: n = 13, 54%;
male: n = 11, 46%) with 10±8 years' experience. All the teachers had a degree in physical education. The
data collection instrument used was a questionnaire (open and closed questions) entered into an online
platform (Google Forms). Our main results indicate that the teachers have a broad and comprehensive view
of the concept of adaptation to the liquid environment and that the majority of teachers associate
adaptation to the liquid environment with the initial phase of the swimming teaching process. The teachers
in the study stated that they consider adaptation to the liquid environment to be important for learning to
swim and that they work on adaptation to the liquid environment in their lessons. The main fundamentals
covered in their classes are breathing, buoyancy and elementary diving. The teachers believe that these
fundamentals are important for students to adapt to the liquid environment safely and with confidence, and
they state that they have resources, materials and infrastructure and that they use different strategies for
children and adults. We concluded that adaptation to the liquid environment is considered fundamental by
swimming teachers, and they use it in their lessons for beginners.

Autor(es): Sousa, Francisco Leandro do Nascimento; Ramos, Luan Fernandes
Abstract: The present study aimed to evaluate the association between habitual physical activity,
sleep quality, daytime sleepiness and occupational stress in municipal guards in the city
of Fortaleza. The sample consisted of 131 subjects of both genders, mean age, 41 ± 9
years and range from 22 to 66 years, members of the operational and administrative

coordination. 64.1% (84) of the sample consisted of women. The variables were investi-
gated according to the Habitual Physical Activity Questionnaire, the Pittsburgh Sleep

Quality Index - PQSI, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale - ESS and the Work Stress Scale.
The descriptive analysis of the variables was presented as median and interquartile
range, absolute and relative frequency. For comparison analysis, mean comparison and
proportion comparison were used with the standardization of p<0.05 in the hypothesis
tests. For the association analysis, Poisson logistic regression was used, requiring the

transformation of the occupational stress variable into a dichotomous one with the cate-
gories “being” and “not having occupational stress”. The prevalence of subjects with high

and medium scores of habitual physical activity was 71% (93). There was a higher prev-
alence of municipal guards with poor sleep quality (81.7%), although absence of sleepi-
ness was observed in most subjects (77.1%). There was also a higher prevalence of

subjects with an intermediate/high level of stress (54.6%). We found an association be-
tween habitual physical activity and sleep quality, with a prevalence ratio of 81% for sleep

improvement (p<0.05) (PR 0.813, 95% CI, 0.665 – 0.994) in subjects with a mean score

of usual physical activity. No associations were observed between habitual physical ac-
tivity and the variables drowsiness and occupational stress. Most of the evaluated mu-
nicipal guards had a moderate to high level of habitual physical activity, poor sleep quality

and intermediate/high occupational stress. Habitual physical activity increased the
chance of these professionals to have good sleep quality.

Autor(es): Silva, André Jorge de Mesquita
Abstract: During the last decade, jiu-jitsu (BJJ) has been going through the process of sportivization
and professionalization. Thanks to this, the increase in competitive BJJ events at all levels
(state, national and world) has become recurrent. Taking this into account, there is a need to
evaluate the training of athletes in the state of Ceará to prepare for competitions, with the aim
of starting a specialized work of physical preparation focused on high performance. This
research took place with competing athletes from different teams, techniques and fighting
strategies. Men and women were invited to participate in the survey, in all categories by
weight between graduations; blue, purple, brown and black governed by the International
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation (IBJJF). This occurred through visits to their training locations,
field research during championships and filling out an electronic research form shared
through the tool, Google Forms. As a result, 34 athletes participated in the research, all
residents in the state of Ceará - BR, with an average height and weight of 172.1 cm and 84.8
kg, divided into all categories according to the IBJJF. The frequency of Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) training
was divided into 3 to 4 sessions on average with a volume of 8 to 10 hours per week, with
70.6% of respondents taking <10 minutes to warm up per session, prioritizing technical-
tactical training. The study also pointed out that training has been optimized with physical
activities beyond BJJ, and that strength training is performed on average 2-3 times a week by
52.9%. Which takes 58.3 min per session, followed by aerobic training at 47.6 min per
session. As for weight loss, it was seen that 79.4% lose weight to compete, that 67.5% have
lost weight ranging from 2-10 kg and that they started with rapid weight loss (PRP) around
18-19 years. All participants practiced aerobic, strength, Crossfit, circuit or functional training
and some cases practiced other fights. But it's not clear how or on what basis the participants
decided how to split their training. It was seen that the priority of the technical-tactical study
aims to cover as many situations as possible in the search for better performance. Knowing
this information, it is evident that the evolution in training requires organization in a specific
way based on evidence.
