Autor(es): Infau, Laurindo Leite
Abstract: The overall objective of the dissertation was to investigate which digital technologies have been used in secondary schools in Guinea-Bissau over the last ten years, through the application of questionnaires to Guinean students who came to study for a degree at UNILAB. Since 2010, the country's Basic Education System Law has emphasised the importance of using information technology and other technologies as important resources in the Guinean teaching process. The study covers two areas of knowledge, Communication and Education. To address Educommunication in particular, we refer to the classics by Freire (1983; 1996). In the field of Communication, we draw primarily on the studies of Braga (2011) and Martino (2019). In the field of Education, we draw on the studies of Soares (2004); Cury (2010); Kleiman (2010); Oliveira (2010) and Santos and Zúcula (2025). In the area of social transformation and ethical responsibility for the use of digital technologies, we draw on the studies of Hans Jonas (2006) and Lira (2018). In the context of methodology, we rely on the studies of Maldonado et al. (2024); Minayo (2007) and Bardin (1977). Methodologically, this is a qualitative case study. Questionnaires were administered to eleven Guinean students who had recently arrived at UNILAB, between the first and fourth semesters, and who had completed secondary education in Guinea-Bissau schools. The questionnaires were administered between 5 and 18 January 2026. Content analysis was used to analyse the data. After analysing the data, it was concluded that digital literacy is not yet a reality in secondary schools in Guinea-Bissau, despite the country's main education law stating that computer and technological equipment are important teaching resources for the teaching-learning process in the country. The eleven participants in the study reported that they experienced (and some still experience) difficulties with the use of digital technologies at university. They recommended the introduction of computer science in secondary schools in Guinea-Bissau to minimise problems for students in higher education, where they will have to engage with the use of different digital technologies.

Autor(es): Santos, Bruna Bezerra Damasceno
Abstract: This research investigates the impact of metricization on the form of journalistic content produced by the portals O Globo and UOL, focusing on the business desk regarding the 'Pix Case,' which permeated Brazilian news at key moments throughout 2025. It starts from the premise that the logic of platformization reconfigures newsworthiness criteria, news values, and contemporary content. The methodology adopted was a multiple case study with content analysis of 29 articles about the Pix Case, starting in January 2025. The episode arose from a misinterpreted tax regulation regarding the transfer of banking data to the Federal Revenue Service, generating a wave of misinformation about the alleged taxation of the service. This scenario was exacerbated by the repercussion of a video by Congressman Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG), which reached approximately 200 million views, increasing the metric pressure on the coverage. The analysis sought to understand how the mainstream media adapts the angles and depth of its economic content to serve the urgency of metrics and distribution dynamics. Thus, five categories were systematized: 1) search engine optimization (SEO) and engagement; 2) dilatable criteria and news repackaging; 3) depth differences between metric-driven content; 4) the impact of AI-generated summaries; and 5) sensationalism. The results of this thesis indicate that metricization did not cause a rupture in Brazilian business journalism, but rather intensified a rationality already financialized and dominated by neoliberal discourse. While since the 1980s the market economist has been consolidated as an interpretive lens, in the platformized context, these mediations are now also reorganized by digital metrics. In the Pix Case, production was accelerated by mechanisms that weaken the social function of business journalism.

Abstract: The research presented here analyzes how the construction of female characters in slasher horror films is influenced by social stereotypes, which are based on a patriarchal view of ideal female behavior. The subgenre in question emerged as a response to the liberalization of themes and behaviors on the big screen that occurred with the end of the Hays Code in the 1960s, a system of rules that regulated what could or could not appear thematically and visually in films commercially produced in the United States. However, even though they apparently opposed the Code, slasher films, in most cases, reinforced the conservatism that it propagated, especially in the treatment given to female characters. To understand this, we first seek to understand the roots of the subgenre by tracing a historical path that goes from Psycho (1960) and Peeping Tom (1960), considered precursors of slasher films, to Scream (1996). After this, we seek to understand how stereotypes arise and their relationship with clichés, based on what is presented by Ruth Amossy and Anne Herschberg Pierrot. From this, we analyze the relationship between female stereotypes and cinema and how women present themselves from the male gaze (male
gaze), a term conceptualized by Laura Mulvey, but also discussed by E. Ann Kaplan. Finally, we propose a division into categories for female characters in slasher horror films: the mother, the best friend/bitch(s) and the final girl (a surviving girl who is or becomes the protagonist, a term coined by Carol J. Clover). The decision to not focus solely on the protagonists in the analyses is because it is necessary to make a comparison with the other women presented in each narrative, since these characters often serve to reinforce the stereotype that serves as the basis for the creation of the protagonist by personifying their own stereotypes. While the final girl represents an ideal of behavior that values virtue, chastity, maternal instinct (sometimes), respect for the law, the women that surround her in the narrative represent other feminine facets that are often placed in contrast to the protagonist.

Autor(es): Costa, Ismia Kariny Correia da Silva
Abstract: The research investigates the quality of journalism within the context of independent initiatives, based on the perceptions of journalists working in this professional environment. It considers the routines, practices, and principles they deem essential for producing quality journalism. This analytical approach is justified by the need to deepen the conceptualization of quality in journalism, taking into account the field’s diversity and the analysis of journalistic practices outside conventional models. In a scenario marked by transformations ranging from work routines to the social role of the press, challenges such as the flexibilization of labor relations (Lima & Bezerra, 2010), changes in news consumption habits (Mattos, 2021), disinformation (Prazeres & Ratier, 2020), and attacks on the press (Souza, 2024) threaten journalism’s credibility and underscore the importance of the debate on its quality. In this context, independent journalism — characterized by greater editorial autonomy and more horizontal forms of organization (Patrício, 2024; Oliveira & Felippi, 2023; Silva & Santos, 2023; Figaro & Nonato, 2017) — emerges as fertile ground for reflecting on new possibilities for professional practice. The research is guided by the following questions: What characteristics, principles, and dimensions define independent journalism from the perspective of professionals working in this field? How do these professionals define quality in their journalistic output? What routines and practices do they consider important for the quality of independent journalism? The study adopts a qualitative and exploratory approach (Lösch, Rambo & Ferreira, 2023; Richardson, 2012; Fraser & Gondim, 2004; Gil, 2002), with a literature review on quality in journalism, transformations in the field, and platformization. Additionally, a survey was conducted with 29 journalists who participated in the "Profile of the Brazilian Journalist 2021" study (Lima et al., 2021) and identified independent journalism initiatives as their main work environment. The goal is to map the characteristics that define and qualify the journalism practiced by these professionals. This step precedes a series of interviews with nine journalists selected from the survey, based on the diversity of their career paths. The combination of these two instruments seeks to balance breadth and depth in the analysis, offering a more nuanced understanding of the interviewees’ perceptions and experiences. The results indicate that independent journalism maintains affinities with traditional conceptions of the profession — especially regarding principles such as ethics, truthfulness, social responsibility and public interest — but also reveals distinctions, such as stronger ties with communities and territories, collaborative and decentralized practices. However, its viability depends on its ability to adapt to new market conditions and to develop strategies that ensure its autonomy and sustainability. Thus, the findings of this study contribute to the debate on journalistic quality by expanding the understanding of the particularities of independent journalism and the factors that influence its production, highlighting the impact of structural challenges on its consolidation and pointing to possible paths for its strengthening
