Abstract: The present study focuses on understanding the meanings attributed by young call center workers in the city of Fortaleza to their work activity, which had the first experience of telemarketing. The aim is to interpret the meanings that the work has in the trajectories of the young people, who aspire through professional formation to enter future in qualified occupations. It is from the locus of the call centers that one thinks the relation between work and youth, emphasizing that the youth segment is vulnerable as to the labor insertion either by the lack of experience or by still being in the process of formation for the market, and with This will demonstrate the paths they have traveled to get an occupation. In order to achieve the objectives of this research, eleven semi-structured interviews were conducted with youngsters from three call centers located in Fortaleza, two of which are outsourced and one, as well as a survey of bibliographic material on the subject and previous research data on the universe of call centers (ARAÚJO, 2016). The data show that the number of telemarketing operators is mainly composed of young people, between 18 and 29 years old, showing that the sector has become a gateway for this segment in the labor market or, as pointed out in the research, a "choice" or "only option" to exit unemployment. The youngsters of this research travel back and forth in search of employment, presenting similarities in their trajectories in the trajectory traced until their entry in the call center. This sector, which expanded at the end of the 20th century, follows the characteristics of the current regime of capital accumulation - flexibilization of relations and working conditions and deepening the exploitation of the labor force -, demonstrating that the insertion of youth in the labor market has occurred precariously. After obtaining an occupation, the young people indicate a compensatory and momentary character to the employment in the call centers, do not plan to spend a long period in this sector, but use it as a strategy to invest in training and in the future to achieve a better insertion in the labor market.
