| Abstract in Brazilian Portuguese: | A presente pesquisa visa analisar o processo da tradução de materiais institucionais de universidades, tomando como modelo o material institucional da Universidade de Sydney. A investigação está baseada na análise do uso dos procedimentos de tradução feito por duas tradutoras, quando da tradução de um texto institucional. A relevância do trabalho reside na busca de diferenças e semelhanças entre as duas traduções, sendo uma tradutora mais experiente e a outra menos experiente no fazer tradutório, mas ambas competentes no domínio da língua fonte e da língua alvo. A pesquisa analisa as escolhas tradutórias utilizadas pelas duas profissionais por meio da análise da tradução e do diário de registro feito pelas duas durante as reflexões que tiveram ao longo do processo tradutório. A escolha do texto institucional se deve ao desafio que a tradução de textos técnicos impõe aos tradutores dessa área. A pesquisa lança mão da análise dos procedimentos técnicos da tradução, descritos por Heloisa Barbosa (2004), por meio da proposta de diferenciação entre o trabalho do tradutor experiente e do novato (ALVES, 2005). Resultados revelam diferenças pontuais no processo decisório registrado no diário e semelhanças na análise dos procedimentos destacados no produto tradutório. Pesquisas dessa natureza podem contribuir com as investigações no campo da tradução de textos técnicos, mas especificamente os textos institucionais (BENEVIDES, 2004; MOSSOP, 1990) e contribuir para o enriquecimento dos Estudos da Tradução Técnica no Brasil. |
| Abstract: | The aim of this research is to analyze the process of translation of institutional materials produced by universities, taking as a model the institutional material of the University of Sydney. The research is based on the analysis of the translation procedures of two translators while working on an institutional text. The relevance of the work lies in the search for differences and similarities between the two translations, one being a more experienced translator and the other less experienced in translating, but both competent in the source and target languages. The research analyzes the translation choices made by both translators through the analysis of the translation product and the journal written by them during the reflections they had throughout the translation process. The choice to investigate institutional texts is due to the challenge they impose upon translators in this area. The research is based both on the analysis of technical translation procedures, described by Heloisa Barbosa (2004) and on the proposal of differentiation between the work of the experienced translator and the novice translator (ALVES, 2005). Results reveal specific differences in the decision process recorded in the journal and similarities in the analysis of the procedures highlighted in the translation product. This kind of study may not only contribute to investigations on translation of technical texts, but more specifically to the translation of institutional texts (BENEVIDES, 2004, MOSSOP, 1990) and enrich Technical Translation Studies in Brazil. |
